The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), an international non-profit organization that addresses hunger, has been awarded the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.

As a branch of the United Nations, the WFP is the world's largest humanitarian organization and provides food assistance to approximately 91.4 million people in 83 countries each year. WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to combat hunger and improve conditions for peace.

UP has had the pleasure of working with both the Nobel Peace Prize Concert and the United Nations World Food Programme in past years.

Here is a film UP created for WFP in 2015 for the World Economic conference in Davos.

About the Nobel Peace Prize winner

This year, 107 organizations and 211 individuals were nominated for the award. The World Health Organization and climate activist Greta Thunberg were among the favorites to win this year.

"To receive this award is a recognition to the men and women at the World Food Programme who put their lives on the line every day for the struggling, suffering people around the world. So I hope this is a signal and a message that the World Food Programme is a role model and that we all have got to do more," said WFP head David Beasley to the BBC's Newshour.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee said the WFP was declared winner of the prestigious award "for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict."
