The original WordPress website had a LOT of legacy content. It used tons of plugins to try and keep things working as they should. As a result, there were issues with internal firewalls. In all, they found their CMS frustrating and difficult to manage.

Sometimes when you have bold plans to grow your business, a bit of a glow-up is necessary. Excelra certainly felt that way. They wanted to cement themselves as the partner for data science, knowledge, insights and decisions, for the pharmaceutical industry.

Excelra wanted to shift their offering from service and product focussed, to a subscription based model. They were keen to revitalize their look and wanted to stand out from their competitors. They knew they needed to make their offering clearer and quicker to understand.

Words like: credit, economic, reliable, and strong life science expertise, cropped up. And while their technical expertise was evident, they needed to prove their understanding of their clients needs.

A data-driven approach to branding and web development

We start all our projects with an audit. We’ll audit you, your competitors, and take a deep dive into who and what you’re up against. From here, we can identify your existing strengths, gather inspiration, and plan improvements.

Excelra opted for an enhanced audit, including market research with the UP Labs team. Focus groups were hosted using a mix of Excelra’s own supplied participants, and general market recruitment respondents. This process explored:

  • Brand awareness
  • Brand positioning
  • Perception of current values
  • Brand service attributes
  • Customer expectations

This extra level of insight was able to help provide a data-driven approach to the next steps. It also helped identify areas to improve if Excelra were to achieve their aspirations of becoming a leading name in their industry. Informing their brand story, messaging, positioning, value proposition, USPs and brand premise.

During all audits, we host persona and customer journey workshops. This helps unify and align the understanding of who our clients want to talk to, with who they are actually talking to. From here, we’re able to create a strategy to meet both these needs and set attainable goals.

This data helped inform the initial stages of Excelra’s digital transformation. It also provided a source of inspiration to create wireframes, sitemap and style tile.

Using insights gained from the audits and market research into consideration, we were able to deliver a stunning new WordPress website. Starting from scratch, we were able to develop a site that didn't rely on a labyrinth of plug-ins to stabilize performance.

The new layout, design and functionality allowed them to transition to the subscription based set-up they were so eager to launch to help scale-up their business.

We have delivered a beautiful yet powerful website. Modernized with the use of animations and their refreshed branding. New case studies and a resource center have been implemented, ready to showcase Excelra’s experience and expertise.

Page load times are faster, there have been no reported outages, or any issues with firewalls. As well, with the optimisations made to their on-site SEO, better quality traffic has driven more conversions.
